Crissy Peterson-Smith Named Principal of Hafley Development Center
EMS ISD is proud to announce that Crissy Peterson-Smith has been named the next principal of Hafley Development Center. Peterson-Smith brings more than 20 years of experience in public education as a teacher, dyslexia interventionist, instructional coach, early learning specialist, assistant principal, and principal.
“I am deeply passionate about early childhood education and believe the early years lay the foundation from lifelong learning, growth, and success,” Peterson-Smith said. “I am committed to creating joyful, engaging learning environments where every child feels seen, valued, and supported.”
Throughout her career, Peterson-Smith has remained focused on strengthening instruction, supporting teachers, building meaningful relationships with families, and cultivating positive school cultures where all students can thrive. She believes strong partnerships between school and home are essential and values collaboration, trust, and open communication.
Her leadership is grounded in service, authenticity, and a genuine love for people. She strives to lead with compassion, integrity, and excellence while keeping the needs of children at the center of every decision.
Peterson-Smith considers it both a privilege and a blessing to serve the Hafley community and looks forward to partnering with staff and families to ensure every child learns, grows, and thrives.
As EMS ISD welcomes Peterson-Smith into this role, Stacey De Hoyos will continue serving as the Director of Pre-Kindergarten, where she will focus on supporting the district's expanding early childhood programs. As the district's Pre-K initiatives continue to grow, this transition allows her to fully dedicate her time and expertise to strengthening those efforts while ensuring Hafley continues to thrive under the leadership of a campus principal. This change reflects the district's commitment to both its early childhood programs and continued excellence at HDC.
